OH AJUMMA!!!!!

I normally do this after my stomach full. Scribble here scribble there....oh wait is that Taeyeon???

I love lucky mistakes. After i got the shape of her cheeks and jaw line, straight to research. Her eyes doesn't really look like her but i'll try to correct them later.

Fill in base colors. I wanna try a different method instead of overlaying the colors from grayscale.

Highlights and Shadows.

Submission

Finally completed my digital painting of Tomb Raider contest. I submitted two entries.

Here's my 1st piece -

                                              ENTRY NUMBER 1

I also made different variations of color scheme and mood.

ENTRY NUMBER 2

Here's a quick recap of the WIP

And also other variations of color scheme and mood.

THE DESIGN

There's always a purpose in every design and my purpose of the design is to be like this.

This is my personal favorite.

OVERALL

I can always come back to refine and work on this project. Overall this contest is a fun experience. I have spend quite sometime working on this. I'm really looking forward for the Art Director to check out my work.

Once again Thanks for viewing and Thanks Deviantart for the Event.

Cheers ~

And then there's Lara with her VER 3

Out of nowhere i'll be doing the third attempt for the contest. This time i get to add another dose of improvement, i will put extra effort in dynamics.

My second version is more a less complete. I didn't manage to save the work half way for WIP purpose cause i work straight to finish.

Here's a grayscale version of the work. I transfer the image to a lower resolution .

This is during halfway of the process. Final version is larger and fill with colors. And again I've mention on my
previous post, the size is 3000 x 6000 and i'm making it's purpose as a banner display. Full version will be up pretty soon along with the first version.

And now..........*Drum Rolls*

VERSION 3
As you can see i made the dynamics on this sketch stronger than the previous versions. I'm trying to draw a solid movement instead of making Lara  looking stiff. During the process i drew her right hand holding the hatchet, and some how it reminds me of Imagine FX Assassin Creed Issue and the direction of the pose look very similar.
JUST TO MAKE SURE I DON'T CREATE SOMETHING SIMILLAR
i wanted this to be my original pose and i'll try my best not to screw this up.

Next fill in the gap. Block out the foreground, mid and background, including the character. I use texture brush to scribble the back.

Highlights and Shadows.......

*Continue Tomorrow*

Overlay and add stronger highlights and shadows.

Overlay again with base colors.

Same goes with the background.

Paint every section for color control. Overlay 1 or 2 layers can sometimes mess up the colors

Paint details on the face by using custom brushes

Skin dirt, scars etc..... So tempting to work on the hair, i'll do that later.

Slowly fill in more and more details.

Refine her hair, belt, strap, paint arrows, and more shadow/highlights on certain area.

I also play around the color balance and vibrance.

Tried out different color scheme. Reason that i put the logo in front is to know whether it fits well with the design.

Next with be more towards refining the trees and background.

Tomb Raider Reborn VER.2

                                                             JUST IN-CASE
As the rule stated -
must be at least 3000 pixels in the shortest length;
should be suitable to be adapted for use in a print;

I get the feeling my first version didn't fulfill the requirements.
So i decided to go for my second attempt. Good thing is still early for me to work on it.

Version 2 will be 3000 x 6000.
The size should be very good  for a banner promotion. I imagine shop owners display them outside their shops on the first day of release.  lolololol
                                                                THE DESIGN

Stage one initiated. I painted  Lara directly on the 3000 x 6000 canvas and then move the image to a smaller size just to post it on my blog. Once i shrink the size down, it looks more pix-elated.

I start of on a simple pose, her leg looks rather weird when she spreads out. Took me sometime to readjust, including both of her arms.

Facial
 - First design, she looks straight at the camera..... Somehow i decided to change the position.
 - Look up the sky and tears coming down, expressing her fear, sadness, tired, and endurance.

Background
 - Still working on it.

As for the Version 1 of Tomb Raider is more a less complete. I still need a bit of time to add a few of final touch up.

GAH!!!!!

Suppose to begin with colors, but some how i screw up the color scheme.... So i decided to end this in greyscale.

Took me 15 minutes

Burnie on Tomb Raider

And my next piece will be painting Tomb Raider Step by Step. This project inspired by the game itself, the character design of the game is amazing. I remember watching the video of Game Informer Tomb Raider issue, the video is about process of creating the cover.  ( Long term painting )

I begin with a rough sketch. I draw a few lines behind her just to indicate the perspective. Add few more lines on her face just to know where is she looking at. She is holding a bow on her left hand and a hatchet on her right hand.

Next is filling up the value and to create silhouettes.  My main focus for now is to work on her body.

- Color mood -
I decided to make a quick work on color mood just the get a clear feel of the painting. I chose the number two cause i wanted to have an intense feeling. Seems that the warm colors are standing out between the first and third thumbnails.

next, i will be working on the background, i made some changes of the lighting.

I mask the silhouette which i painted moments ago and then paint inside the silhouette with some base colors.

Next will be correcting proportions and draw some rough out lines to create a structure. I also did a slight adjustment on the angle of her head.

Just think of painting a plain female rag-doll for the moment. Don't have to worry about details just yet. Understand the difference between lighting bouncing on skin and clothes. Adding shadows just to make sure the painting wont look flat.

Working on the face. Blocking out the form and add some highlights on the face.

LOLOLOL i was painting half way on her face, i felt something was not right cause Die Hard 4.0  poster came to my mind. When i Google for that poster....Holy $#%^&. I find it hilarious somehow.

Anyways, this is the face structure which i painted for the moment. That Die Hard 4.0 poster might be a good reference for the lighting.

---- Off for a 20 minute break......BRB folks :) ----

Back and continue,  i refine and added rough textures on her shirt by using custom brushes. For the skin tone, i try to blend with the background theme.

Hairrrrrr......... Finaly xD

Just a basic fill of her hair... i will come back and continue again.

BTW SHE LOOKS ASIAN....MEH

I shall fix that later

" BRB Dinner Time "

" After Dinner Later "

I've roughly fix her face structure. I refined her arms and body. Right now her hair tone is too dark. I will add some light so it will be easier to see when i turn on the background.

Lighting on her hair. I added more highlights and shadow on the face. The painting seems to look more sharper and i don't even need to do any filter any effects. I still need to add more on the left side of her hair.

Next is to paint the hands / arms. I drew some rough weapon just to indicate the position of the grip. Also made some change's on Lara's expression, right now she looks more intense instead of smiling.

i've painted the right hand along with the hatchet which is in silhouette form. I've made some changes on her teeth and some areas on her shirt.

THATS ALL FOR TODAY. I WILL CONTINUE THIS AGAIN TOMORROW.

~ Good Night ~

~ 4 Hours Later ~

Awesome Morning... went to Mcdonalds for breakfast and their having free burgers.
Since i woke up so early, i decided to continue painting :)

Paint her left hand and holding a custom made bow (silhouette form). I've also added highlight on her back of her head.

Next is to paint her pants, and again made some changes on her nose. I've also readjust some of her hair on her right.

Add more highlights and overlay bright yellow on her face. I think the lighting is strong enough.

Added more details. Looking forward to paint dry blood.

 " Continue again Soon "

ON CHRISTMAS DAY SPECIAL

This is what i've done so far....
Still need to work on the background and rest of the details.

Continue Soon....

Working on background. It will be forest fire concept. Start off with basic brush to scribble some trees and then use texture brush to create the overall look. I use brown color to match the style.

Trying out the character by adding the silhouette.

Adding warm colors to give it some heat feel.

Start to paint certain areas which to determine the position of the fire.

Keep on adding details by using texture brushes, and also play around the spacing of the brush and brush tip.

Adding flames, use outer glow with yellow to create the light effects.
Next step will be hard details, i decide to go to my backyard and take photos of tree trunks, mud, rocks etc. I'll be using them for my textures

Sharpen the the image and more details.

Don't have to paint so much in the middle of the background since Lara is blocking the way.
