Burnie on Tomb Raider

And my next piece will be painting Tomb Raider Step by Step. This project inspired by the game itself, the character design of the game is amazing. I remember watching the video of Game Informer Tomb Raider issue, the video is about process of creating the cover.  ( Long term painting )



I begin with a rough sketch. I draw a few lines behind her just to indicate the perspective. Add few more lines on her face just to know where is she looking at. She is holding a bow on her left hand and a hatchet on her right hand. 
                                                   

Next is filling up the value and to create silhouettes.  My main focus for now is to work on her body.

- Color mood -
I decided to make a quick work on color mood just the get a clear feel of the painting. I chose the number two cause i wanted to have an intense feeling. Seems that the warm colors are standing out between the first and third thumbnails.


next, i will be working on the background, i made some changes of the lighting.


I mask the silhouette which i painted moments ago and then paint inside the silhouette with some base colors.


Next will be correcting proportions and draw some rough out lines to create a structure. I also did a slight adjustment on the angle of her head. 


Just think of painting a plain female rag-doll for the moment. Don't have to worry about details just yet. Understand the difference between lighting bouncing on skin and clothes. Adding shadows just to make sure the painting wont look flat.


Working on the face. Blocking out the form and add some highlights on the face.


LOLOLOL i was painting half way on her face, i felt something was not right cause Die Hard 4.0  poster came to my mind. When i Google for that poster....Holy $#%^&. I find it hilarious somehow.

Anyways, this is the face structure which i painted for the moment. That Die Hard 4.0 poster might be a good reference for the lighting.

Back and continue,  i refine and added rough textures on her shirt by using custom brushes. For the skin tone, i try to blend with the background theme.


Hairrrrrr......... Finaly xD

Just a basic fill of her hair... i will come back and continue again.

BTW SHE LOOKS ASIAN....MEH

 I've roughly fix her face structure. I refined her arms and body. Right now her hair tone is too dark. I will add some light so it will be easier to see when i turn on the background.


Lighting on her hair. I added more highlights and shadow on the face. The painting seems to look more sharper and i don't even need to do any filter any effects. I still need to add more on the left side of her hair.


Next is to paint the hands / arms. I drew some rough weapon just to indicate the position of the grip. Also made some change's on Lara's expression, right now she looks more intense instead of smiling.




i've painted the right hand along with the hatchet which is in silhouette form. I've made some changes on her teeth and some areas on her shirt.

THATS ALL FOR TODAY. I WILL CONTINUE THIS AGAIN TOMORROW.

Awesome Morning... went to Mcdonalds for breakfast and their having free burgers.
Since i woke up so early, i decided to continue painting :)


Paint her left hand and holding a custom made bow (silhouette form). I've also added highlight on her back of her head. 


Next is to paint her pants, and again made some changes on her nose. I've also readjust some of her hair on her right.


Add more highlights and overlay bright yellow on her face. I think the lighting is strong enough. 



Added more details. Looking forward to paint dry blood.

ON CHRISTMAS DAY SPECIAL


This is what i've done so far....
 Still need to work on the background and rest of the details.

Working on background. It will be forest fire concept. Start off with basic brush to scribble some trees and then use texture brush to create the overall look. I use brown color to match the style.


Trying out the character by adding the silhouette. 


Adding warm colors to give it some heat feel.

Start to paint certain areas which to determine the position of the fire.


Keep on adding details by using texture brushes, and also play around the spacing of the brush and brush tip.


Adding flames, use outer glow with yellow to create the light effects.
 Next step will be hard details, i decide to go to my backyard and take photos of tree trunks, mud, rocks etc. I'll be using them for my textures


Sharpen the the image and more details.


Don't have to paint so much in the middle of the background since Lara is blocking the way.

Legacy confirm and updates




It's been an interesting month for me especially working on Project Legacy Kanto. The one i uploaded on my deviant art, it is freakin huge. Image Size ->  4316 x 2406.  So i'll upload a smaller version here.

About Legacy Kanto

Story of this painting. Red recently became the champion of Kanto, you play as a traveller arived to Pallet town and it is your role to start your journey and become the next champion.

Spoiler alert: Ending... you didn't get to fight Red cause he went to Johto. So instead you fight -> (Some one else which i don't want to tell you just yet ).  But i will paint the concept soon.
Therefore, Legacy Johto will be on next year. 


 GENETIC REBIRTH

The painting which not 100% satisfied yet, i did a step by step on my previous topic.

 And i even made an extended version. But before Genetic Rebirth concept existed, i did made an untitled version with the similar concept with a different angle.


My story of this version is more towards on Giovanni's second attempt to create another Mewtwo and somehow it is kinda success. " #What if "

SNEEK PEAK BIANCA

I sketched Bianca / Bell few days ago. I'm not intended to finish this because i'll be working on side story for Legacy Kanto and possible Legacy Johto on next year release. So i only got 2 simple steps of the work.

Step 1 - Rough sketch, this piece is something that i might probably develop on the future. 
About her character, she is rather cheerful and she has a bunny teeth when she smiles.                                                                

Step 2 - I added value and that's it. I did research her attire and decided improvise her skirt, the original design of her skirt is longer but if i follow the design, the painting on this image might look weird. JUST SAYIN....


Yep...... of course this is NOT MY FINAL DESIGN.  I still need to sketch out different faces and maybe another pose.

Just to let you guys know that i do collect Pokemon Cards. And recently, my parents bought me japanese cards from Osaka Japan. Went to the Pokemon Center and it is really amazing.....Yep.....they actually play the Pokemon Center Theme...... MANLY TEARS!!!!!!

As for Legacy Johto.... I will paint the next gym leaders and promo Lugia concept. I wanted to relate all these paintings into a story and making them interesting by painting more content.

Matte Painting try-out

Took a picture today ~

A Tyre shop caught fire somewhere near my neighborhood.

                             A good opportunity to try out Matte Painting. It is a representation of a landscape which allows filmmakers to create an illusion of an environment. The image itself can tell many different interesting stories. So right now i'll try to bring my imaginary visuals to life. Will update on this time to time....


For now i've used custom texture brush to create cracks on ground. I'll try to add more stuff later on.

A Poke idea "Working on Promo"

Pokemon "LK" my game art idea project. Will be upload on deviantart soon maybe around 1 week or less. But at the mean time ill be showing the promo art which i started moments ago. I've already created an illustration of it but some how i'm not satisfied with it so i decided to recreate a new one from scratch again. Here's the sketch for the moment...


Begin with a rough line art, make sure the proportion and perspective angle are properly align. I can always sketch them later.

Fill in the shape to form a silhouette of Mewtwo. Is ok to draw over the lines cause i can always erase them later.


Adding in the value to show the shape. For now is rough, i'm going to correct them.


Over here i'm trying to make sure that the proportions are correctly attached and to understand the roundness of the object.


Next step is to create the muscle structure. Understand how the body bends forward even thought is a bit exaggerated, i will try to make it subtle later on. Always look out for references and understand them, use imagination and creativity to bring out the visuals and relate them to the objects.

Try out some custom texture brush. I also readjust the rib cage on his body and muscles.


Adding a base color by masking the body.


Next step is adding some rough color background just to make sure i keep the flow going.


And then i added some light just to indicate which direction it shines.


next is working on the face.


Is getting there ~

more details and I've also added lighten effect just to bright up Mewtwo.


adjust the vibrance and contrast of Mewtwo. Looking forward to refine the hands and feet soon.


Use texture brushes to create these details on the leg. Paint them in a flow direction. I can refine them later on.


Texture on chest and abs. Later on ill be adding veins and blur out some part of body so that it wont look flat.


Play around brushes just to enhance Mewtwo's nose and forehead. Added more details on belly as well.


I added more strokes for the background. I'm trying to create a weird dimension looking world but right now, it is still on the early stages. I've also reduce the darkness of It's nose so from far distance the painting will look more subtle.


Working on the back ground. I'm going for a bit abstract.


Over here i'm trying to clean out the outlines. I duplicate another Mewtwo in grey scale just to make sure no additional strokes which is unnecessary. So far so good... 


And this is what i manage to paint for today. I will update more tomorrow cause there's still lots to be done.

Was kinda busy yesterday so....


I added more strokes and refined edges. And also adjust the brightness and contrast following with vibrance so the color wont look too sharp.


Painting the spoon and having a real spoon beside my screen for references. I've also exaggerated the bottom part of the spoon and make the object feel heavier. 


 Make sure Mewtwo really hold on the spoon and also testing out the mist on the bottom.


Next step is to check and make sure the light shines on the proper direction.


I've also tried out different color scheme for the background.

Process is over ....for the moment. It's not finish yet cause i still need to try out different method. I will update when i finished the whole thing cause right now is more a less done, the only thing left is refining and adding more details.
